Structure Bond - 5 Myths Debunked

Structure Bond - 5 Myths Debunked

First introduced in 2017, Structure Bond is a high-duty construction adhesive that can be used to bond a wide range of materials including concrete, brick, natural stone, wood and metal. Structure Bond’s revolutionary polyurethane foam compound gives it industry-leading strength and unrivaled ease of application through the specially designed dispenser gun. Our adhesive is easier, faster and more precise to install than any competing product on the market.

The vast majority of construction experts who gave Structure Bond a try have loved their experience and many have made it their « go to » adhesive going forward.

However, some contractors have been reluctant to try Structure Bond because of unfounded myths or misunderstandings.

In the following article, we will debunk 5 common myths regarding the use of our Structure Bond construction adhesive.

Structure Bond is more expensive to use than traditional tube adhesives

Priced at around $40 a cartridge, Structure Bond has a higher unit cost than most traditional adhesives currently available on the market.

However, it is important to keep in mind that due to its polyurethane foam compound, a single Structure Bond canister contains about as much product as 20 regular-sized tube adhesives.

In addition, unlike most construction adhesives, Structure Bond won’t dry out between applications. A single canister can be used on multiple jobs.

At the end of the day, you will always get more bang for your buck when choosing Structure Bond for your construction projects.

The Structure Bond gun has to be thoroughly cleaned after each application

It is not required to clean the Structure Bond gun between each application.

As a matter fact, once an adhesive cartridge is screwed on the gun, it should not be taken off unless it runs empty. Doing otherwise will result in air making its way into the tool, potentially jamming it and rendering it unusable.

Once a Structure Bond adhesive cartridge runs empty, simply unscrew it from the gun and do one of two things :

  1. If installation is not complete, replace the old cartridge with a new one and carry on with the application. Once the work is done, simply close the flow dial and store the gun until further use.
  2. If the job has been completed, replace the empty cartridge with a can of Structure Bond Gun Cleaner. Then, pull the trigger and let the liquid solution flow until it comes out clear.

Structure Bond application is not recommended in cold or rainy weather

Unlike other construction adhesives, cold or rainy weather won’t affect Structure Bond’s efficiency. As a matter fact, this product works even better when applied on wet or damp surfaces.

Versatile and convenient to work with, Structure Bond can be applied year-round and provides consistent bonding performances. It’s also fire-resistant and weatherproof, making it the perfect adhesive for the construction of outdoor fire pits and retaining walls.

Structure Bond sets so fast - Any dripped or spilled product is a hassle to clean up!

It takes only 8 minutes for Structure Bond to initially set, and under 24 hours to be fully cured. This product doesn’t allow for much leeway, which is why it is recommended for professional use only.

The specially designed dispenser gun grants total control over product flow, making the application of Structure Bond easy and minimizing the risks for unwanted drips or spills.

If ever these were to occur, the powerful Structure Bond Gun Cleaner comes with a built-in nozzle, allowing it to be sprayed on any uncured product, dissolving it in a matter of seconds.

Structure Bond is an exterior-only product

There’s no doubt that Structure Bond is mostly used for exterior construction jobs.

However, this high-performance adhesive can also be utilized on a wide range of indoor renovation projects. Contrary to other construction adhesive out there, the application of Structure Bond through the specially designed dispenser gun is easy and precise, minimizing the risks of product overflow or unwanted spillage.

Additionally, Structure Bond is a very versatile adhesive that bonds to most construction substrates, including porcelain and ceramic tiles, wood, brick, and natural stone. It can also be applied on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.
